Next up in the z uber move...Getting the tape libraries from the garage to the server room. This will require installing a much larger door (two doors really), building a ramp, and moving a metric ton of boxes of gear/cables/parts/etc.
Around December 2018 I purchased a used Scalar i2000 and a few weeks later a used Scalar i6000 gen1. Both are from Quantum. Although ADIC made the previous revisions. IIRC there is a third vendor that also sold them under their name.
The LTO-6 drive in my i6000 is now working!
Looks like I'll need 630Q or better to use LTO-6 with my library. The trick will be getting a copy.
As far as I can tell the serial port on the i6000's and i2000's MCU spits out binary data. Documentation I found a while ago said it was not a console port but for something else. Might be worth digging into this more for debugging info but probably not worth while for now.
The config files and such in /usr/local/amc/app are all publicly accessible.
The HTML, JARs, and other web resources are hosted from /usr/local/amc/app.
Found a privilege escalation vulnerability in my i6000, version 617G.GS01001. Also figured out how to generate license keys. Notified them and have posts ready for in a month or so.
Quick pointer: If you're using this for anything other than lab testing, well, you really shouldn't. If you've got to have someone tell you that such things are ethically and legally problematic, you're probably not a very good person anyway. Or just not thinking. Either way, think before you use this info.
Turns out that Quantum/ADIC helpfully includes the binary for generating license keys!
